OASIS COMMUNITY KITCHEN
Oasis Hub Community Kitchen Volunteer Programme
Our team of volunteers meet one day a week to cook nutritious meals from scratch that are then delivered to families or individuals throughout Oldham. They aim to help reduce food poverty and to help those who may just need this support temporarily as their circumstances have been affected, as many were and still are, due to covid.
One of our volunteers sources food donated by local supermarkets that would otherwise be going to landfill and through this initiative we are able to reduce our costs at the same time as reducing food waste.
We also have a partnership with The Hub at Alexandra Park which is part of the Get Oldham Growing project. They supplied us with freshly grown vegetables throughout lockdown to cook with and are now providing us with training and resources to grow our own.
We work in partnership with Thriving Hollinwood delivering food to some of their residents and last year they funded our volunteers to obtain their food hygiene certificates.
Our volunteers all share the Oasis ethos and are driven to help others. We have a variety of skill sets from professional cook to complete beginner.
New volunteers are always welcome to help with food preparation or deliver the meals. We also run cooking sessions with young people and are welcoming Greater Manchester Youth Network to our team and a small group of their young people are volunteering to help over the next eight weeks.
